On 26 August 2026, Judge Brien Purcell Horan, Deputy Permanent Observer of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the United Nations, met with Mr. Volodymyr Pavlichenko, Deputy Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, in New York.
The meeting focused on the situation in Ukraine, the Sovereign Order of Malta’s longstanding humanitarian engagement in the country, and prospects for further high-level bilateral engagement during the forthcoming High-Level Week of the United Nations General Assembly.
Mr. Pavlichenko expressed appreciation for the humanitarian assistance provided by the Sovereign Order of Malta in Ukraine, including support for children and young people, assistance to people requiring prosthetic care, and food assistance.
The discussion also touched upon Ukraine’s humanitarian needs and the importance of peace, recovery and reconstruction. Judge Horan reaffirmed the Sovereign Order of Malta’s continued commitment to its humanitarian activities in Ukraine and to supporting those most affected by the ongoing conflict. The meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the longstanding relationship between the Sovereign Order of Malta and Ukraine and to explore avenues for continued cooperation in support of vulnerable populations.
