Counsellor Peter McGuire addressing the 5th Plenary Meeting of the UN Water Conference 2023

The UN Water Conference, co-hosted by the Permanent Mission of the Netherlands and the Permanent Mission of Tajikistan, took place from March 22nd to March 24th and is expected to adopt the Water Action Agenda as a main outcome. It resulted  in a summary of proceedings from the president of the General Assembly that will feed into the 2023 session of the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF).

Peter McGuire, Senior Counsellor addressed the General Assembly during the 1st Plenary Meeting. He stated that ‘access to clean water remains a multidimensional crisis that requires more effort, dialogue and action.’ He continued saying that ‘In addressing target 6.2 of the SDGs, we purposefully approach our work using a gender-based lens […] as many girls and women in developing countries lack access to adequate sanitary products and facilities, which lead to severe health and educational concerns.’
