On Tuesday, 25th October, our Counsellor Mr. Peter McGuire addressed the 2022 UN Third Committee Conference, intervening in the dialogue about the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism with a powerful statement.

Comending the report of the Special Rapporteur Ms. Fionnuala Ní Aoláin, Mr. McGuire stressed:

“The Sovereign Order of Malta, in the strongest terms possible, reaffirms the urgent need for nations counter and prevent violent extremism and terrorism”;

“Remaining true to our principles and faith – he continued -, it is crucial for approaches to counter-terrorism to adopt concrete and rights-based provisions for the deliverance of tolerance, justice, peace and freedoms. This must be accomplished throughout the processes of investigations and prosecution, of terrorism offences, and must be achieved through multi-stakeholder approaches and partnerships between governments, judicial systems and whole of society”.
