On Thursday 27th October, our Counsellor Fra’ Nicola Tegoni addressed the 2022 UN Third Committee Conference, intervening in the dialogue about the inquiry on the occupied Palestinian Territory, an issue of key and transcendental importance to our work and mission.

Fra’ Tegoni commented the report of the Chair of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and in Israel, Ms. Navi Pillay, bringing two example of the Sovereign Order of Malta’s daily work:

  • The Order’s Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem, “which is the only hospital of the region with a neonatal intensive care unit, capable of delivering and saving the lives of babies born before 32 weeks gestation”;
  • The eye hospitals in Jerusalem, Gaza and Hebron, the Anabta Clinic on the West Bank – part of the Venerable Order of St. John of Jerusalem – which “have provided care in a region where there is a high rate of blindness, the majority of which is curable. In this sense, we continue to work to eradicate preventable diseases”.
