Ambassador Beresford-Hill moderates session at the 2022 Concordia Annual Summit   on the sidelines of the General Assembly, New York

Among the events scheduled during the 2022 Concordia Annual Summit in New York was a special session on  ‘Partnerships for Sustainable Transformation: Solutions through Solidarity, Sustainability and Science’ held today.  The event was sponsored by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, and focused on ways in which partnerships between the public and private sector could both encourage and sustain economic and social development.  The panelists included Lih-Jun Shyy, Deputy Secretary General of the International Cooperation and Development Fund of Taiwan, Thomas Eymnoind-Laritaz, Founder and CEO of Highgate, in international consultancy, Drew Horn, the Founder of GreenMet, the world’s premier green energy supply chain company, Panos Madamopolus, Managing Director of the Stanford Institute for Human Centered AI and Dr. V Balaji  a Distinguished Fellow at Schmidt Futures and a former Professor at Princeton University where he expanded research at the intersection of climate change and computational sciences.

In his remarks before and after the session, Ambassador Beresford-Hill  drew attention to the recent gift from Taiwan to the Order of Malta in support of our operations in Ukraine and along the border, in alleviating human suffering.  The conversation focused on moral and humanitarian considerations in the growing interface between Artificial Intelligence and the management of climate change. Other topics covered included the use of science in the development of employment opportunities for internally displaced persons and ways in which AI and other initiatives could combat corruption at both the macro and micro levels.
