On 19 February 2026, H.E. Ambassador Paul Beresford-Hill, Permanent Observer of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the United Nations, met with H.E. Ambassador Giorgio Marrapodi, Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations, at the Italian Mission in New York.

 

The meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the long-standing and close relations between Italy and the Sovereign Order of Malta. Ambassador Marrapodi recalled the historic ties between Italy and the Order, including Italy’s role in supporting the Order’s engagement at the United Nations and key milestones in the development of bilateral relations.

 

The Ambassadors exchanged views on current multilateral priorities and the evolving global context. Ambassador Marrapodi underlined Italy’s strong commitment to the multilateral system and the central role of the United Nations, reaffirming continued support for international human rights law.

 

Ambassador Beresford-Hill outlined the Sovereign Order of Malta’s priorities at the United Nations, the Order’s work in areas such as food security, health, interfaith dialogue, and support for vulnerable communities. Several forthcoming initiatives were discussed, reflecting areas of shared interest and alignment.

 

Both Ambassadors emphasised the importance of a strong and effective United Nations capable of responding to contemporary global challenges. The meeting concluded in a constructive and cordial atmosphere, with both sides expressing a shared openness to continued dialogue and cooperation.
