On April 12th, 2023, Ambassador Riyad Mansour kindly hosted a meeting with Ambassadors Beresford-Hill and Ambassador Bowe at the Permanent Mission of the State of Palestine in New York where they discussed the current needs of the State of Palestine, as well as the commitments the Sovereign Order of Malta are making in their aid response.
The meeting started with Ambassador Bowe reviewing the activities that the Sovereign Order of Malta are undertaking in Palestine and informed Ambassador Mansour of the support that the Order is giving to as many people as possible, specifically through the Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem, which provides employment and training opportunities for Palestinians.
Ambassador Beresford-Hill expanded the topic, referencing the work of our Alliance partner, the Venerable Order of St. John and the excellent work they accomplished in providing ophthalmic care to Palestinians.
Ambassador Mansour expressed his concern related to security, as many people are still afraid to visit hospitals and clinics due to the ongoing conflict, and lack of political stability in the area, which affects people’s ability to practice their religion and attend holy sites.
The difficulties encountered by many religious and faith communities were discussed at length.
The meeting concluded with Ambassador Mansour, Ambassadors Beresford-Hill and Ambassador Michele Bowe agreeing on the need of international cooperation to bring awareness about the ongoing violence and the violations of international law in Palestine.
