On Friday, September 29th, Amb. Dr. Paul Beresford-Hill and Diplomatic Trainee Laetitia Schönburg delivered a statement at the Third Committee, 4th plenary meeting, on the implementation of the outcome of the World Summit for Social Development and of the twenty-fourth special session of the General Assembly  and Social development. The agenda included questions relating to the world social situation and to youth, ageing, persons with disabilities and the family.

On the subject of support for ageing populations around the world, Ambassador Beresford-Hill stressed that this issue is a matter of significant concern to the Sovereign Order of Malta. He drew attention to projects for ageing populations around the world, particularly in the areas of Africa and Latin America. In encouraging collaborative initiatives inspired by faith based communities he mentioned the work of the St. John Cave Trust in the UK. This is a collaborative venture between the Order of Malta and our Alliance partner, the Venerable Order of St. John. Together these two organizations manage the largest private non-profit care network in the UK. Serving thousands of elderly and underprivileged seniors.
