28/10/2025

On 28 October 2025, Pablo Camprubí, First Secretary, delivered a statement at the United Nations General Assembly Third Committee during the discussion on Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories.

Opening the session via video link, Ms. Francesca Albanese, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, reported that hundreds of thousands of civilians in Gaza have been killed or injured, while thousands more remain missing beneath the rubble. She noted that survivors continue to search for the remains of loved ones amid the ongoing devastation.

Ms. Albanese further voiced concern over the expansion of settlements in the West Bank and the rising levels of violence across the territory. She also condemned the weaponisation of humanitarian assistance, highlighting the severely restricted flow of aid into Gaza and the repeated attacks on humanitarian workers. In closing, she reiterated the urgent need for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

In his statement, Mr. Camprubí expressed deep concern over the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories and welcomed the recent ceasefire in Gaza, stressing the need to ensure it is maintained. He emphasised the importance of guaranteeing safe, sustained, and unimpeded humanitarian access and called for renewed and meaningful dialogue among all parties.

Mr. Camprubí highlighted the Order of Malta’s focus on protecting and supporting the most vulnerable, urging that humanitarian responses prioritise their rehabilitation and long-term wellbeing. He reaffirmed the Order’s commitment to cooperation and engagement with all actors involved in relief and reconstruction, and noted its ongoing humanitarian work in the West Bank, including through the Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem and mobile medical clinics.

He concluded with a call for collective will and solidarity to work towards a safe, prosperous, and just future for all peoples of the Holy Land.
