Members of the Order’s UN Delegation Attend Luncheon Event Discussing Biomedical Research and Collaboration

Ambassador Beresford-Hill recently attended a luncheon organised by the Gruppo Esponenti Italiani (GEI). The focal point of the event was the work of Professor Andrea Califano, a renowned figure in the field of systems biology and the President of the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub New York. Professor Califano, selected by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, shared insights into his groundbreaking work, aiming to demystify the complexities of science and make it accessible to all. Ambassador Beresford-Hill and Counsellor Gregory Pang were guests of Fra’ Nicola Tegoni, member of the Order’s Sovereign Council.

Professor Califano’s interdisciplinary approach to research, bridging fields from physics to medicine, captivated the audience. He emphasised the importance of collaboration between different areas of expertise in driving progress in fields such as oncology and neurodegenerative diseases. Professor Califano emphasised the crucial role of predictive technologies in clinical trials. His innovative approaches aim to identify molecular factors underlying diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s, offering hope for preventive interventions and personalised treatments.
