The annual ECOSOC Youth Forum convened by the United Nations from April 16th to 18th, 2024, under the leadership of Paula Narvaez, the President of ECOSOC, aimed to provide a platform for young leaders worldwide to address pressing global issues amidst escalating tensions, climate crises, and rising poverty. Themed “Youth shaping sustainable and innovative solutions: Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of crises,” the forum sought to foster youth-led initiatives for sustainable development.

Key objectives included facilitating dialogue among youth, Member States representatives, and stakeholders to explore transformative pathways towards sustainable development, sharing knowledge, skills, and innovative solutions, and activating youth engagement for upcoming events like the High-level Political Forum and the Summit of the Future. Discussions covered topics such as multidimensional poverty, food insecurity, climate change, and youth representation in decision-making processes. Participants emphasized the need for inclusive policies, social protection programs, and investments in education and employment to combat poverty, particularly in regions like sub-Saharan Africa. They also highlighted the importance of addressing global food insecurity through access to nutritious food and innovative solutions to supply chain disruptions and rising food prices. Regarding climate action, participants stressed the urgent need for collective action to mitigate climate change effects, advocating for green transitions and sustainable practices while recognizing the role of education and skills development in empowering youth as agents of change.

Overall, the ECOSOC Youth Forum highlighted the pivotal role of young people as catalysts for change in realizing the 2030 Agenda, showcasing the power of youth-led action and collaboration in building a more equitable and sustainable world.
