Ambassador Beresford-Hill met with Ambassador Nicolas de Rivière, the Ambassador of France to the United Nations on 12 June 2023 at the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations.

They enjoyed a fruitful conversation, reminiscing about their respective government’s mutual engagements throughout history, including the 1798 conflict with Napoleon Bonaparte.

Ambassador Beresford-Hill shared with Ambassador de Rivière the Order of Malta’s recently ratified procedure on human trafficking, as well as the Order’s extensive international humanitarian efforts, including the Order’s activities in France, via the French Association, and other ‘Francified’ territories.

The two Ambassadors also engaged in serious discourse about their mutual concerns regarding international affairs, particularly Western Africa, Lebanon, and Syria

The meeting concluded on the topics of the French government’s relationship with the Sovereign Order of Malta, and the Sovereign Order of Malta’s relationship with other humanitarian agencies. Ambassador Beresford-Hill expressed a desire for greater diplomatic collaboration, and this was reciprocated by Ambassador de Rivière.
