H.E. Ambassador Beresford-Hill addressed the General Assembly regarding the responsibility to prevent genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity

On 30 June 2023, H.E. Ambassador Beresford-Hill made an intervention to the General Assembly concerning the responsibility to prevent genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity. In his speech, the Ambassador made reference to the United Nations landmark resolution, aptly known as the ‘Responsibility to Protect’, and discussed the three guiding principles of that resolution: the pursuit of peace, justice, and the prevention of mass atrocities. To that end, he shared with the nations the Sovereign Order of Malta’s promotion of “health and dignity for people in need,” through its humanitarian activities in 120 countries, and asked each State and organization to reaffirm their commitment to the common good of all. He concluded by referring to Pope Francis’s June 14th Security Council statement, where the Pontiff reminded us that ‘We are suffering from a famine of fraternity.’
