On June 16, 2023, Counsellor Mrs. Marissa del Rosario Blackett delivered a statement on ‘Saving Lives: Addressing the Urgent Food Security Needs of Haiti’ in the United Nations Trusteeship Chamber.

In her statement, Mrs. del Rosario Blackett noted that:  “Following the seismic events that occurred in 2021 and 2022, the Sovereign Order of Malta has undertaken a comprehensive initiative aimed at assisting more than 20,000 households. This project entails the provision of fruit trees, the establishment of domestic gardens, the construction of water cisterns and irrigation systems, the facilitation of access to cultivated crops, the introduction of small livestock to enhance both nutrition and income, training programs focusing on small animal husbandry, capacity-building initiatives in sustainable natural resource management, aqueduct development, and educational endeavours addressing the interconnection between nutrition, health, and hygiene.”
