Mr. Ravi Tripptrap, a Counsellor at the Sovereign Order of Malta’s UN mission, delivered a crucial statement concerning the disproportionate impact of the climate crisis on the Global South. He emphasized that a synergy of multiple stakeholders is essential to address Sustainable Development Goals 13 and 14, as only an inclusive coalition can provide the impetus for enhanced adaptation and policy improvements.

His speech emphasized our efforts in regions most affected by the climate crisis to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to preventing this crisis from escalating into a climate catastrophe. He specifically mentioned our projects in Kenya and Haiti, where Malteser International collaborates closely with local communities to maximize our impact. In these countries our projects focus on training the local population to ensure the sustainable use of natural resources while also raising awareness about the harmful effects of certain agricultural practices.

Mr. Tripptrap demonstrated our specific and tailored approach by illustrating the diversity of our projects. He highlighted our ‘Womenpreneurs4plastic’ program, which combats plastic pollution by involving marginalized women at every stage of the recycling chain. This program addresses destructive plastic pollution in regions of Asia while empowering a disenfranchised group. His examples exemplified the effectiveness of our targeted approach to relief and how it significantly contributes to upholding the human dignity of those affected by the climate crisis. This statement underscored the central role of sustainability in our global aid efforts and the seriousness with which we embrace our God-given role as stewards of His creation.
