On October 3rd and 4th, Counsellor Mr. James E. Buckley and Ms. Costanza Lucii delivered a statement on Advancement of Women at the Third Committee. In their statements they expressed concern about violence and the lack of access to healthcare and basic needs, particularly affecting women in marginalized communities.

They emphasized the importance of not only ensuring safety but also meeting the basic needs of women, citing examples of the Order of Malta’s medical efforts in Laos, Togo, Burkina Faso, Cuba, Colombia, Chile, and Cameroon, where we provide healthcare services to women and children in underserved areas.

The statements stressed that our overall goal is to protect and empower vulnerable individuals, with a commitment to ending violence and promoting gender equality. The Sovereign Order of Malta calls for collective efforts to create a world free of violence and where the rights and dignity of all individuals are upheld. Our speakers concluded with a call to continue working together to advance the cause of women’s empowerment.
