On June 12th, 2024, the Sovereign Order of Malta hosted a celebratory concert at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, honouring the Order’s 30th anniversary as a Permanent Observer at the UN with an event titled, ‘Voices for Faith and Dignity’. This special occasion was a testament to the Order’s long-standing commitment to promoting faith, dignity, and humanitarian efforts on the global stage.
The evening began with the words of H.E. Ambassador Paul Beresford-Hill, who inspired a sense of reflection and gratitude in his opening speech. “The year 1994 was a landmark in our history because it marked our acceptance as a Permanent Observer at the United Nations and allowed us the privilege of both contributing to and learning from the world’s only truly global representative body,” he stated. He also expressed reverence and appreciation for the tireless commitment of the Order of Malta’s humanitarian workers.
This momentous event featured musical performances from across the world, including the United Nations SRC Symphony Orchestra, Joaquin Maria del Rosario & The ADNY Coro Hispano, The Brooklyn Interdenominational Community Choir, and Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Cathedral Choir. Their joyful and faith-enriching music was a great gift for all present. The power of music to inspire hope and foster unity was showcased wonderfully. The performances underscored the event’s theme of faith and dignity, reminding everyone of the values that the Sovereign Order of Malta continues to uphold. The concert was not just a celebration of past achievements but also a reaffirmation of the Order’s mission to bring compassion and support to those in need around the world.
