On Wednesday, 4th of February 2026, a bilateral meeting was held at the Permanent Observer Mission of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the United Nations between the Permanent Observer, H.E. Ambassador Paul Beresford-Hill, and the President of Caritas Ukraine, Ms. Tetiana Stawnychy, accompanied by Ms. Brianna E. Fitzpatrick-Pawlusiak, UN Liaison for Caritas Internationalis.<\/p>\n
The exchange reaffirmed the fraternal bond and longstanding relationship between the Sovereign Order of Malta and Caritas, providing a valuable opportunity to review their respective humanitarian efforts and the critical challenges currently facing the region. Discussions centered on the ongoing work of both organizations, particularly regarding the safety of humanitarian personnel in conflict zones and the evolution of specialized aid to meet the growing needs of the Ukrainian people.<\/p>\n
The Sovereign Order of Malta presented an overview of its extensive medical and first-aid operations, as well as its diplomatic engagement at the\u00a0United Nations Security Council\u00a0aimed at upholding the rule of law. Caritas Ukraine shared the significant scale of its community-based response, which operates across the country through a dedicated network of\u00a02,500 staff and 11,000 volunteers. Both parties noted the vital role of inter-religious solidarity, highlighting the deep connections with local parishes and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic and Orthodox Churches that sustain community resilience.<\/p>\n
The meeting concluded in a constructive and forward-looking atmosphere, as both sides explored prospects for increased future collaboration.
