Ricardo di Montecupo, met with H.E. Ambassador Hameed Ajibaiye Opeloyeru, Permanent Representative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to the United Nations, for a bilateral meeting held on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025. The discussion focused on expanding cooperation between the two institutions in humanitarian action, interfaith dialogue, and diplomatic engagement.

Grand Chancellor di Montecupo detailed the Order’s long-standing humanitarian presence in the Middle East, beginning with its maternity hospital in Bethlehem, renowned for its advanced neonatal care. The hospital’s largely Muslim staff, he said, exemplify interfaith collaboration by working under the Order’s emblem in a spirit of mutual respect.

Since the onset of the Gaza conflict, the Order has distributed over 300 tons of food aid and is in the process of establishing a new clinic in Gaza. A microcredit program, temporarily suspended due to instability, is expected to resume once conditions permit.

In Lebanon, the Order operates a multi-specialty medical center in Beirut and several mobile clinics serving thousands of Syrian refugees in the Beqaa Valley. Its agricultural programs promote sustainable farming through compost and seed production, training local farmers, and supporting food security. The Grand Chancellor also highlighted the Order’s facility in Chabrouh for people with disabilities, which annually hosts international volunteers who assist and engage with residents, fostering inclusion and care.

["GET
